The Mantuary

BUY MANTUARY GEAR!

Just days after CNN rolled out a piece about The Mantuary, there seems to be a bit of contempt towards those that either have or promote the idea of a space for Men only.  My favorite contrarian might just be this woman.  The blogger, MEDBH, suggests a Mantuary is nothing more than a place for a man to “physically remove himself from the real household business and play with his toys and buddies”.  She goes on to suggest “family matters are always dumped in women’s laps”.  

 

Thanks, MEDBH. Your overbearing opinion and generalizations are the exact reason some Men never come out of their Mantuary.  Finding the balance between your own space and your responsibilities in life is what defines a Man.  I agree that too much time in a Mantuary can turn someone into an irresponsible husband and father, but similarly, too much time thinking every action a guy takes is a threat to woman’s existence can turn you into an ignorant, bitter woman just as quickly.

 

You see, my “escape” to the Mantuary often comes with my wife’s blessing.  To take a page from Chris Rock, I consider myself a “daddy who handles his business.  Not some guy who f****d you and left”.  Funny, but my wife always gives me the big piece of chicken, too… does that upset you as well?

 

MEDBH closes by asking, “Why do some men get married and have children and then only spend every waking moment doing all they can to ignore or avoid them? I think it’s most likely because some Men (thankfully myself excluded) marry a bitter woman like yourself.
