George Dennis Carlin: May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008
“Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, Cocksucker, Motherfucker, and Tits.” – George Carlin
In today’s world, for better or worse, any jerk with a keyboard and an internet connection can broadcast these words freely across the world wide web without the fear of repurcussion, but it wasn’t always this way. These were the Seven Dirty Words (You Can’t Say On Television) that George Carlin included in a monologue on his infamous Class Clown album that aired uncensored on WBAI-FM back in October of 1973, making his name a footnote of American legal history after a case that was filed by the FCC against the Pacifica radio station who broadcast the sketch made it all the way to the Supreme Court. The Court ultimately decided in favor of the FCC and the landmark decision formerly established indecency regulation in American broadcasting. Whether or not you agreed with his politics or views on obscenity, there’s no question the Man was a true comedic genius with balls who could make you laugh and had something to say. He also voiced the character of Munchie on The Simpsons “D’oh-in’ in the Wind” (Season 10, Episode 209) and played the character of Rufus in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (and Bogus Journey). And my favorite bit:
F’n brilliant. May he rest in peace.
Be A Man.
