Much to the dismay of my employer a laptop used to have a lifespan of about 10 months once I got my hands on it. Getting smacked around an airplane, leaving it in the car on a hot/cold day, or just dropping it, laptops come to me to die. Two years ago my laptop was stolen while traveling, forcing me to buy a new one at one of those overpriced airport stores. I ended up with a SwissGear Computer Backpack
The Swiss left nothing out when they designed this bag. First off, it’s HUGE. When you load up this thing you feel like Les Stroud about to be dropped in the middle of the Kalahari. It doesn’t ever seem to be full. It has perfectly placed compartments for access to everything from your laptop, cell phone, ipod, all connecting wires, files, pens, water bottles, and aspirin. I have been able to use only this bag to carry everything for an overnight business trip, shoes included. It even has two great hidden pockets to put cash or that Tin of Kodiak you don’t want your wife to know about. It sports “shock resistant” padded straps that make it incredibly painless to carry, even if you have a full load.
The other thing that is great about this bag is that it’s extremely durable and completely waterproof. It’s seen more x-rays than Christopher Reeves, yet it looks brand new. My laptop hasn’t so much as cracked despite being dropped countless times.
