Mantuary Of The Month: January 2009

BUY MANTUARY GEAR!

Now that the last month of Mantuarian Year XLII (a.k.a. January 2009) is behind us, I thought it was about time to announce the winner of last month’s Mantuary contest.  Although the winning submitter’s Mantuary looks like a great place to hang out – complete with flat screen TV, pool table, and bar – what really caught my eye were the beer taps coming out of the wall.  Congratulations to Jim from Atlanta for creating, in his own words:

“…the one room in the house where I can do what I want.  I wanted a look that reminded me of some of the hole in the wall bars I haunted in my earlier years.  Plenty of neon, tin beer signs, pool table, darts, car posters, a section of goalpost from a college football game, a big ass TV and most importantly beer taps coming out of the wall.  For some reason the guys in the neighborhood just show up on weekends uninvited to watch football.  Hope you like it because I sure as hell do.”

I sent Jim a follow up email asking him for some details on his keg setup, to which he replied:

“Keg set up was pretty easy.  I can fit a whole assortment of kegs in the fridge but a combination of one 1/2 or 1/4 barrel and then 2 1/6 barrels seems to work the best for parties.  I usually have at least one homebrew on tap along with some sort of good local brew, I’m in Atlanta so Sweetwater shows up a lot.  The build for the kegerator was pretty easy, just needed a hole saw, some PVC pipe, duct tape and some of that expandable foam stuff.  CO2 tank sits outside the fridge, a line runs from that to the dual output regulator inside the fridge.  Kegs are tapped inside the fride and beer lines run out the fridge to the left through some insulated PVC pipe to the taps on the wall about 4 feet away.  To keep the beer in the line cold I have a small electric blower installed in the fridge.  It draws cold air from the fridge and blows it through a hose to the end of the PVC pipe run, this forces the air in the pipe to circulate back into the fridge and keep the beer in the lines cold so no worries about having to waste the first beer poured off the tap.”

Brilliant! Thanks to Jim for the homebrew beer dispensing tips, I know I’m going to put them to good use and a lot of our readers will too. Click here to see more pics of Jim’s Mantuary online.
